"Earth, Wind and Fire" - Double-sided
18"x6'x6"
by Nan Phillips and Stephen Potter
Created for the HCG Gallery, Dallas
Texas Sculpture Association
Juried Exhibition
2008
Stephen Potter came to me with the already-created steel sculpture, and the desire to have glass included in the openings. Together we devised a theme for the piece. I then created two panels for each opening, making the piece double-sided.
Each glass panel went through multiple firings, both full and tack-fused, to create glass with depth and texture.

"Geomatria"
12"x14"
The glass was tack-fused, then slumped over a hand-made,
single-use mold. The piece stands on its own glass base.

"Neriad - Water Nymph"
9"x11"x2
Created by taking a casting of the face of one of my figurative sculptues, then creating 4 ring molds of differing widths;
The mold material was then fired, sanded, and the mold pieces stacked with the face in the center.
When the dichroic and clear glass "blank" was slumped into the mold, it created 3-dimensional plate - the face of Neriad, the Water Nymph coming up out of the water.

This piece was created with the specific intention of telling a story:
Life ebbs and flows;
Every day offers a window of opportunity.
Life Hangs in the Balance.
The pieces were tack-fused, then slumped over a hand-made, single-use mold. |
