Artist, Nan Phillips
I began my glass and sculpture career in 1993 and I now specialize in both figurative sculpture and dichroic art glass.
My glass work is unique, created as one-of-a-kind pieces combining both sculptural and glass-working techniques that I have developed over years as a practicing artist. I work with cold glass, fused glass, free-form sculptural solder, and hand-made molds to create distinctive art objects.
My pieces are diverse and range from jewelry to wands to flat panels to sculptural glass, and many things in-between. I love the technical process of working with glass, and enjoy the challenge of new ideas and the puzzle of figuring out how to approach and accomplish new projects.
My figurative sculptures are modeled in clay and cast in bronze, resin, or pourable stone, and my pieces range in size from 1/4 scale to 1/2 scale of the human body. I have recently added mold-making and casting to my repertoire of skills in order to control the sculpting process from inception to finished sculpture.
I take delight in the form of the human body, feeling that the body speaks a global language, and that through the portrayal of musculature, detail and nuance, I am able to impart the beauty of the human spirit.
