I position the model in a way that suits both the model’s body and my idea for the piece, and take detailed body measurements. I begin my sculpting process with a concept and a blank board, and build the piece by adding bit upon bit of clay. Using proportional calipers I build out to the model’s dimensions and measurements, frequently using anatomy books and my own body, especially my hands and feet, to guild my work.
Creating the skin of the sculpture is what I particularly enjoy. Accentuating bone, muscle and skin folds allows me to breathe life into my work. |
