ABOUT NAN PHILLIPS
As an artist and sculptor, I have a passion for working three dimensionally, and for creating sculptural fused glass art, using controlled kiln work. I love shaping glass and turning pieces of hard, flat glass into beautiful forms and textures. And I love sharing my passion with others.
As a full-time artist with over 20 years' experience in art glass and figurative sculpture, I turned half my home into a teaching studio, and opened my own classes in Richardson in 2008. I find introducing others to the process of creating their own artwork fun and exceptionally rewarding. In my Glass Classes and Art Parties, students explore materials and techniques that I have learned as a practicing artist. I encourage others to bring their own ideas and designs to life, and I work with each individual to make their vision a reality.
I hold weekly classes in fused glass and stained glass, and offer glass workshops and Art Parties on request. (Currently suspended due to Covid - See Classes.)
In addition to teaching and creating, I am an active member of several local art organizations, leading, participating in, and chairing shows and exhibitions.
I am currently President and webmaster of Texas Jewish Arts Association. In 2013 I because a founding member, Treasurer and Membership Chair of this Dallas/Fort Worth-based non-profit organization. Texas Jewish Arts is a spring-board and support system for artists, and works toward creating a Jewish arts community for visual and performing artists in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The organization offers exhibition and performance opportunities, social, networking, and art-sharing opportunities, plus arts educational and informational programming.
As a long-standing member of Texas Sculpture Association, I served as President in 2008/2009. I took over production of the organization's weekly newsletter for member news and artist opportunities in 2008, and I continue to produce the weekly newsletter.
I have been involved with the Arts Incubator of Richardson (AIR) as an Advisory Board member since 2008, working toward creating a combined facility for the visual and performing arts in Richardson, and was on the Board of Directors of the Richardson Arts Alliance, which has since completed its mission and closed in 2021. I am also a member of other arts organizations, and a graduate of Leadership Richardson, Class XXXII, and a member of the Leadership Richardson Alumni Association.
My artwork is held in public and private collections around the Dallas area, Austin, Denver, Louisville, California, New York, London and Australia. I currently show and sell artwork through my web site, in my studio, at art organization shows and venues, and on the Urban Artist Market website.
