ABSTRACT SCULPTURE
Every now and then I get an urge to play with other material and techniques and expand my horizons. My abstract work is often done in conjunction with other artists.
And the results are just plain fun!

TWISTS AND TURNS OF FATE
$2,100
12”x12”x12” 46 lbs This dramatic piece, entitled "Twists and Turns of Fate" is #2 of potentially 4 castings. The sculpture is 12" x 12" x 12" and weighs 46 lbs. Manipulating a hot wire, I carved the original sculpture out of a foam block. I then created a silicone mold and a plaster mother mold around the piece, and cast the sculpture in Hydrostone, which is a pourable Gypsum cement. The silicone mold picked up the minute detail and porosity of the foam, which gives the finished piece the look of carved limestone. This sculpture is a limited edition of four. Casting #1 was cast in HydroStone - Sold. Casting #2 is currently available for purchase |
FRACTURED FAIRY
Fractured Fairy was a collaborative sculpture created by artists Nan Phillips, Nancy Uline, Jan Ayers Friedman and Stephen Potter, for the Texas Sculpture Association Collaborage Exhibition at The Eisemann Center, Richardson, TX in 2010.
The object of this show was to create group-sculptures. Each group member was instructed to start one sculpture with an item that inspired them. Then each member took a turn working on, and adding to, each other's sculpture. The group then worked together to complete the four sculptures. "Fractured Fairy" was my lead piece, and was inspired by the initial "wing", which I had created some years earlier while experimenting with that particular glass. The sculpture was created using fused and slumped glass, wire, netting, ribbon, a metal support structure, and beading - lots of beading - taken from the dismantled installation sculpture "In Over Your Head". Working with this wonderful group of artists was great fun and allowed me to broaden my horizons as far as size and materials. Wall Hung Sculpture 5' tall x 4' wide x 1' deep Not for Sale |
IN OVER YOUR HEAD
"In Over Your Head" was an inter-active hanging installation sculpture by Nan Phillips and Jan Ayers Friedman, created specifically for the show "Under the Influence of Water" at The Cedars Gallery, Dallas, November, 2009.
Tired of visitors being told "don't touch the sculptures," Jan and I wanted to create an interactive sculpture that people could enjoy, touch and "swim" through. The piece was created using water-related and water-looking materials, including vinyl water tubing, some filled with chopped, colored glass and beads, others filled with pigmented resin; and bead-strung fishing line - hundreds of feet of it! Every strand was hung from metal grids by shower hooks. To give a water-surface sensation above, additional beaded, looped, fishing line was suspended under the support structure ... along with a couple of mermaids. 4' x 6' wide x 6' long |
