Mondrian Breaks Out the Boogie
A three-dimensional wall-hanging glass sculpture created by artist Nan Phillips
11” x 11” x 1-3/8”; 3-1/2 lbs
“Mondrian Breaks Out the Boogie” by artist Nan Phillips is a three-dimensional fused glass sculpture set into an 11” high x 11” wide x 3.5” deep, white shadow box frame that can either be hung on a wall, set on an easel, or stand on its own. This piece was inspired by artwork created by Piet Mondrian after moving to New York in 1940. I incorporated his use of smaller color stripes and blocks in the background, and mimicked the artist’s use of larger color blocks with black dividing lines in the foreground. The large color blocks and black lines of glass are peeling, melting, and falling off to give way to Mondrian’s new artistic motif.
